Amalfi to Sorrento to Marina de Cassano 10 July (and Capri)

Planning to travel to Sorrento today and visit Capri. We hope to get a berth in Sorrento.
Last evening in Amalfi in front of the beautiful St Andrews cathedral.
We had to enjoy a refreshment at the piazza in front of the church.
Just another photo of Amalfi.
And a parting shot.
Passing Praiano, Alex and John's honeymoon place.

We startied at 5.30. Arrived in Sorrento at 8.30 and were told " we are full, no place for you " we moved on to the next marina, Marina de Cassano, which is just wonderful, and cheaper. Quite a swell, though.

Some photos of Marina di Casano.
The long walk to the boat.
Almost on land.
At last at the toilet. A bit primitive but working.

Carl having a shower on the jetty. It is so very hot and humid you can shower 10 times a day!
The view from our back window, Vesuvius!

The way to Capri. First take the elevator to get on top of the cliff, long walk to the train station and train to Sorrento an then a long walk to Sorrento port for the ferry to Capri.
Waiting for the train.

We decided on two sights to see. Axel Muntes Villa San Michele in AnaCapri and the main piazza in Capri town. We took the local bus to villa San Michele. The road winding up on the edge of the cliff. It can't get more exciting and nerve tickling than this.
A cold refresher before going to the villa.
"Water, wine and death"mosaic on the floor entering into the dining room.
The villa was donated to Sweden. A museum and also an ornithologist ringing station.
View of the outside gardens.
View over harbour as the sphinx sees it.
The Sphinx.
We took the fenician stairs down to Capri town. 734 steps. The Sphinx on outlook!
Steps, steps, steps.....
Beware of the dog!
After 734 steps and a 20 minute walk on windy roads and more steps we are in "the living room of the world"
Back in Sorrento the Turks had a parade.
Back on the boat
What a day. Puuh!!!
The amazing  Marina di Cassano
High volcanic rocks.

Amalfi, Pompei, 9 July

Pompei here we come
In the bus towards Pompei. Nerve racking roads along beautiful Amalfi Coast.
Amalfi in the distance.
In the queue for tickets. The persons behind Leslie are Frida and son Albin from Göteborg.

The Greek theatre.
The Lupanara. The place of bad repute. According to our guide the girls were luping (shouting like wolfs) to get the customers attention and business . Lockrop in Swedish.
The sign in the street pointing out the direction of the Lupanara .
The big piazza and Vesuvius in the background.
About 1000 remains of dead people and animals have been discovered. Here an older man taking his last breath.
Piazza picture.
On the way out of Pompei.
The Pompejaner palace.

Acciaroli to Amalfi, 8 July

Next stop Amalfi. So exciting. Have heard and read so much about Amalfi.
Morning in Acciaroli after a early swim.
The crew getting ready to set off,
Marina in Amalfi.
A photo from Messina sent to us by Jimmy.
Setting off to discover Amalfi.

View of the marina.

View from Lellebelle
Pete and Leslie enjoying the coolness of the evening, after yet another swim. It is hot here!
Carl and I took a trip to Praiano where John and Alex spent their honeymoon 3 years ago. Went to the their hang out, Africana, but it was closed, probably only opens at midnight!
A view from Praiano. Lovely place

Leslie having a shower on deck.

It is really very difficult to describe this town, with these amazing buildings stuck to the rocks. It is even more difficult to take a photo that does justice to this place. There  are very many tourists here, lots of ferries and busses going all over the place, in short a very busy active town.
We took a local bus to Praiano  and that was an experience not easy to forget. The road is narrow and windy, with two way traffic, hairpin bends, plus fantastic views. No need to say more.

Certano to Acciaroli 7 July

And so we leave Centrano with a newly " maintained" boat. We are heading for Matarea to fill up with diesel and decide if we will continue to Acciaroli or stay in Matarea. We have heard that Matarea is beautiful, but we know nothing about Acciaroli.
And so we go past the most beautiful scenery.

And I cannot stop taking photos..
Beautiful...
Again
And again

A fisherman in a rowing boat!
And sea like a pond.
Nearing Matarea. An enormous statue of Christ up on the hill.
Matarea was cute and quaint
But we filled up and left for Acciaroli, the sea being so calm we could not waste it.
Arrived in Acciaroli. And once again, surprise, surprise, a beautiful place!
A little village where apparently Earnest Hemingway stayed.
We have seen some interesting sausages along the way and though that we would cook some tonight. Carl and Pete went off to the mini market but could only find Germans sausages. Although quite ok, we are now determine to find Italian sausages.
And I suppose this explains something about Earnest Hemmingway.

Tropea to Cetrano 6 July

Next stop after beautiful Tropea is Cetrano, for no other reason than it about 7-8 hours away. Went straight across a bay and did not see much coastline.
Cetrano is a so-called working town, as apposed to a holiday town. The surroundings are quite pretty, the town itself, so-so.
When we arrived a a man came up to the boat on a bike with a card from his restaurant, The red Shrimp, and said we should have dinner there. A little later he came by with a bottle of cold white wine.
An aperitif, he said, and did not want payment. We felt obliged to eat at the Red Shrimp, even though we had decided to cook ourselves. When we got to his place he tried to palm off his old fish on us. Since none of us wanted fish, he became rather unfriendly, but we had a quite good meal in any case.
So we have learned that we will never again accept wine from strangers!

Time for boat maintenance again. Carl and Pete take a 2 km walk into town to buy spareparts and spend the afternoon working on the boat.
