Istanbul to Canakkale 13 May

I Again we go separate ways. Carl and Kevin takes the sea route to the Dardanelles. Leslie continues on her overland bus journey with destination Canakkale. 5 hours on the bus preferable to 14 hours on the boat. We'll see who had the best trip:-)
05.30 in Marina Ataköy, Istanbul

Carl and Kevin waving good bye!

Leslie waveing good bye and see you tonight before sunset.

Leslie waiting in Canakkale. Sun is setting and the boys are no where in sight. Finally they arrived in complete darkness at 22.00. Happy and glad that they had made it.

An exhilirating second phase of the trip for the boys so far. On the way to the Bosphorus they encountered an area where there were multiple dolphin pods fishing over a wide area estimated at some 70 or 80 marine animals churning up the ocean. Entering the Bosphorus, the new bridge construction linking East and West made an impressive unfinished civil engineering sight. Does this signify the future connection between Turkey and the EU? Who knows?

The trip from Istanbul to the Dardanelles and on to Carnakkale was an awesome experience for the boys with the passage over some of the deepest waters on the planet at times 600 to 1000 metres in depth. The knowledge that the passage traversed across, shifting tectonic plates defining the geological rift between the continents of Asia and Europe was aptly punctuated by the swirling waters in the middle of the Marmar Sea.The busy sea lanes and the approach to the Dardanelles in almost total darkness provided our intrepid seafarers with an unforgettable experience that was both navigationally challenging and physically exhilirating.
