Corfu 18 - 22 June

Taking a break on the island of Corfu until Monday, waiting for crew.
A visit to the old castle. Enormous, high and beautiful views.

View towards the North.

View towards the south.
This beautiful street, called. I think, Liston, with its arches, where you can sit in the shade and enjoy a coffee, or whatever. One can sit here for hours just watching life go by,
And by chance we meet up with Per again! Such fun to actually meet someone you know in a foreign city.

Michele and Maurice from France arrived in the berth opposite us a very strong wind, but being the very experienced sailors they are, they managed very well. And 15 minutes later the wind died down completely. We spent a lovely evening on their boat, with interesting stories about their travels. According to Michele we absolutely have to visit Syracuse. And we most definitely plan to do so.

As usual Carl has to investigate every little unexplained thing on a city map and dragged us up a hill in a green area to see a spot marked with a big red X. Turns out to be a prison, probably build in the 1800's but still used today. Big notices with Prison area, do not photograph all around this round building. Can't be very nice for the prisoners, such an old building.
When we got down the hill we found this stone in an overgrown plot. It says Ward Road, made by the prisoners of the penitentiary  in the year 1854.
After the prison experience needed a treat and walked to the other side of the bay where we feasted on mussels in lemon sauce, crab cakes and retsina. A long lunch.
The mussels and crab cakes.
Such another view of Corfu, I mean Carl.

A lazy Sunday afternoon became quite exciting watching yachts come in to berth in the very very strong afternoon wind. This one ran aground and had to be pulled out. There is nothing better that being safe in your own berth and watching others trying to berth. (Of course we help when we can)
The Marina Gouvina can take over 1000 boats.

We have waiting being and waiting for this letter with my replaced credit cards to arrive. A bit of a headache if it did not arrive because Carl was leaving and I was taking the ferry with no idea how many days before we caught up with each other. This would have meant carrying a lot of cash. Plus that the letter was registered and addressed to Carl, so I might not have been able to receive it. When it had not come by Monday we took matters in our own hands and walked to the post office about 45 minutes walk away. And lo and behold, the letter was there. I wonder when they would have sent the slip to the Marina?
And so happy day. Brother-in-law, Pete has arrived
The Italian crew! I believe they are both looking forward to having a haircut a a real Italian barber, who they visualise in a special way, amongst others, a thin little moustache.
