Linz-Grein, 18 July

Hello Linz! Carl has returned on time back to Leslie and LB. In the Winterhafen lies the boat Paradiso next to LB. Andy is he skipper of this multipurpose ship. He has done the trip to the fearful Black Sea with his ship and back again. Andy was a wealth of information about the Donau and  specially the stretch from Belgrade to the river mouth.  He gave us many good advises and could reassure that everything will be alright in the end.
Andy and Carl on Paradiso. It turned out that Andy was a lover of horsemeat and specially Kazakhstan horse sausage. Carl was lucky to share his supplies of Kazakh delis with this gourmet.

What the matter now? Schleuse fashion show. Notice the red gloves. Only to be used when on Schleuse duty. Purchased in Nurnberg at Norma.

Grein Marina. We checked in and were fascinated by the tree in the foreground. The tree is actually next to the Marina Club House. The harbour capitain Erikka told us that in June 2013 the marina was flooded up to the level of the roof of the club house. The flood was 15,3 meter over normal level of the Donau.
The Grein Schloss is on high enough ground even for the 2013 flood. Carl  wonders if it as ever attacked by the Swedes during the 30-year war. Interesting to learn was however that the present Swedish king's mother is related to the Coburgers who still reside in the castle.

The Rathaus Theatre in Grein is one of the oldest in Austria. The Lokomotive komedie was the attraction for the summer season. Lots of elegantly dressed people were outside the theatre in the intermission. We went to the local "must visit" cafe and had a Veltliner and noticed that the elegant people preferred white and red wine rather than to sit through the Lokomotive performance.
