So join a 1hour free guided tour through the city with a free drink at the end. The tour is in Austrian German but not to worry, I think I caught at least half of it. We started at the Hauptplatz which is one of the largest squares, where ?, missed that. But I did get the it is 60 m wide and 200 m long. The buildings all had to be in this style.
We passed this beautiful house which was built for a family who owned chemist shops. Can get a glimpse of the Danube in the distance. During the floods last year the water came up to that sign outside a door at the bottom of the street. The guide explained about the precautions that have been taken to minimise flood damage, which sounded. Very interesting but unfortunately lost on me.
Visited the Schloss, not particularly pretty but with quite a history. This German I understand.
A view of Linz from the Schloss. It was a beautiful evening and the photo does not do justice to the view. The church in the foreground is the Stadtpfarrkirche. Charter 1286.

The tour ended at this bar, where in return for completing a questionnaire of what you thought about Linz and whether you would come back, you get a free drink. Met some Germans (my age) who were cycling to Vienna. There are about 40 000 cyclists passing through Linz every summer. This is what the guide told us.
And this place could not be missed, The Cape Town Winery, right in the middle of Linz.
