Leaving Duisburg Marina
With much apprehension on my part we left the safety of Duisburgs inner harbour to face the mighty Rhine. Without exception, everyone we meet warns us about the Rhine, the traffic, the current how how careful one has to be.On the way out on the Rhine. Last longing look at Duisburg harbour. Duisburg is maybe not the first choice for a holiday, but it had some surprises, like the way the old harbour has been incorporated into a new type Waterfront. The cranes are still in place, skilfully lit up at nighttime. There a rememberence park, for the industrial past, where half demolished buildings are standing. One building, 3 storeys, which is lit up from the inside, is the the part where the remains if the staircase is. And friendly people.
So this is the scary Rhine! Admittedly, a fine summer day, with only a gentle breeze, but wide and not much traffic between Duisburg and Düsseldorf. Just outside Duisburg, a farmer herding his sheep to drink from the river.
So pleasant could even relax for a while.
Approaching Dusseldorf. What a wonderful city. Did not take much notice of the clouds or that it was over 30 degrees, that cloud turned into an enormous black thing which caused the worst storm in Düsseldorf that anyone here can remember.
Architecture as seen from our marina.
Marina Dusseldorf.
Yesterday it was Canoe polo competition at villa Hügel, today Boule competition on the waterfront in Düsseldorf.
According to Carl one has to drink Alt Bier in Düsseldorf. This ist the First Alt Bier.
Second and third Alt Bier at Uerige Brauhaus, an Institution in Düsseldorf. According to our neighbours at a restaurant later, A visit to Uerige Brauhaus is compulsory before dinner and compulsory to end off the evening after dinner. The neighbour was a student here about 40 years ago.i
