St Goar - Rüdesheim, 18 June

Early early in the morning we start our trip up the Rhein against the most furious currents and narrow bends. Actually the expected horror trip starts already in Koblenz. But Koblenz turned out to be no worse then the rest of the Rhein. In 1991 the Deutsche Eck was complete flooded. And in December 2011 the whole town had to be evacuated for disarming a mine from WWII.

First signal before Loreley- It gives information about how many +110 m barges are approaching the bend from upstream.
 Loreley rock
almost there... phew
Sometimes only 5 km/h compared to 15 on the canal

Ufer with vineyards.

Toll station in Kaus and then....
Schloss
 another Schloss
 and yet another Schloss
 guess what?
 a church
 a Schloss
 a rower
 Schloss,  Schloss, Schloss,  Schloss
 Schloss,  Schloss,  Schloss,  Schloss
 Schloss,  Schloss,  Schloss,  Schloss

Taking the Seilbahn to the monument on top of Rudesheim.

Germania in her  full 38 m glory. The monument was erected after the victory in the Franco-Preussen war and the unification of Germany. Kaiser Wilhelm dedication roughly translated from German "the Rhein is German..." (my own interpretation: not bloody French)

Viewing of the Rhein from the Germania monument

Congratulation Carl and Leslie! You made it. The Rhein is now behind you.
Happy to return back to river level and to Drossler Weinstube.
